HUGE VICTORY!

Yesterday my baby girl graduated from high school. I am so proud of her, that's a huge victory! It's especially meaningful to me since I didn't graduate. I had a really rocky start in high school and after I cleaned up my act it was a little too late. Eventually, I dropped out and got my GED, and went to community college early. I'm in graduate school now, but I certainly didn't pick the easy path and I've always been a little envious of people who pushed all the way through. Anyway, it's always been extra important to me that my girl finish and enjoy some of the perks of sticking with it for four years like prom and pep rallies. Plus, I wanted better for her. I didn't want her to have to struggle like I did to have to fill in all the blanks because she didn't finish. I was a few years behind in math when I started college and I had to take math as electives for 2 years before I got to the one that "counts". I hate math! Anyway, I am just pleased and so proud of my girl. She didn't have an easy time in high school either and there were quite a few struggles, but she persevered and she did it! GO ALLI! You sure do make your mama proud! I'm so glad to have such a wonderful girl.

Everything else kinda pales in comparison, ya know? I've been waiting EIGHTEEN years for this day! I almost can't believe it. She's really excited and even more excited to be starting college. *sniff* my baby isn't a baby anymore!

Here's a quickie update on fitness and food...

Wednesday I attempted to go for a bike ride. I say attempt because there were multiple issues with my bicycle that only became evident as I was on the way to my destination. 1) The seat moved, a lot. 2) The tires are apparently as air tight as a block of Swiss cheese. 3) The seat height was too low so I felt like my knees were in my chest. 4) The gears were kinda working. See the problem(s)? Fortunately, I had only planned to use my bike to ride to the store to satisfy a cucumber emergency (I picked fresh dill) so I was only going about 1.5 miles round trip. I ended up walking probably half of it. The last .25 miles was all down hill, so I just coasted the whole way and it was awesome to feel the wind in my hair! The bottom line: I need a new bicycle. I'm doing some research, but it's on the list for purchases in the near future along with a bicycle helmet.

Food has been fine. Yesterday, I had an apple and peanut butter for breakfast, my latest favorite and lunch was a yum yum salad made from garden goodies. Dinner was chicken and lots of squash. Everything was in a little bit of a hurry since I had to rush from work to home to the graduation ceremony, but it all worked out just fine. I still need to drink a lot more water.

Tomorrow is the big hike! I'm so excited and have lots of prep to do tonight. After work I'm headed to REI to pick up the gear I rented, then home to pack!

I hope you all have a LOVELY weekend with lots of sunshine and good times.
